Toad Kick Starts HORDE
Under sunny skies in Northern California's Bay Area, Toad The Wet Sprocket kicked off the HORDE festival tour with a 45 minute set of old and new songs at The Shoreline Ampitheatre. Playing in front of an enthusiastic crowd (many of whom rushed from the lawn to get closer to the stage during the band's set) Toad received a standing ovation after the closer "Fall Down." Now it's on to Portland for the second of the thirty HORDE shows that Toad is slated to perform this summer. Keep an eye on the Toad Touring page for written updates from Glen, photos from Randy and answers from Dean to questions asked by House Of Toad visitors.

A HORDE OF FESTIVAL INFO
It's nearly a week before the first date of the HORDE festival, and the performers are busy preparing for the two month odyssey. Hotels are being booked, songs are getting rehearsed, and laundry is going through the wash. Staging such an event involves a nightmare of logistical planning, from everything to arranging for parking the numerous tour buses and equipment trucks to making sure everyone knows where to be at what time. In the middle of this is Toad The Wet Sprocket and their crew, lead by tour manager Quake, who are doing all of the above while trying to spend some quality time with their families and friends before hitting the road.

Those of you hoping to attend one or more of the HORDE shows could also use a bit of planning as well, especially if you are going to see Toad. They will be taking the stage early in the day at the beginning of the tour, gradually performing later in the show as the tour moves east, including a few dates where they will go on right before headliner Neil Young & Crazy Horse. For the complete list of show times and performers (subject to change) click here.

Note also that many of the venues are a combination of reserved and general admission, so to guarantee yourself a good seat for the main stage (where Toad will be performing) it might be wise to buy your ticket sooner than later. The festival has set up a HORDE Hot Line at 212-582-0228 which gives a complete rundown of charge-by-phone numbers. Many of those attending their first HORDE festival are probably curious about the name itself, and although it's never been officially recognized as such, the name is an acronym for "Horizons Of Rock Developing Everywhere." This year, Blues Traveler*the founders of the name and the festival*will be appearing at only a few shows, but Neil Young and Toad will be among the few playing at every single stop. So when the cavalcade rolls into your town, try to get their early*most shows will open the doors at 2:00pm*and don't forget to bring the sunscreen (a hat wouldn't hurt either). As far as other carry-ins are concerned, such as bottled water, blankets and umbrellas, check out the official HORDE website for the individual venue restrictions.

THE TREEHOUSE
We've added a new addition to the House of Toad called The Treehouse, which is a high-end programming area that requires the Shockwave Plug-in and offers Screen Savers Wallpaper and a Shell Game. The Treehouse now resides on the Mediadome site, but in two weeks will be integrated into houseoftoad.com.

GUITAR WINNER GROOVES TO SILO LULLABYE
Congratulations to Jason Shropshire of Concord, North Carolina. He was the first visitor to the new House Of Toad to correctly guess the exact lyrics of "Silo Lullabye," the "hidden" track on COIL, and he is the winner of a Fender Stratocaster guitar autographed by all four members of Toad. The 21 year-old had this to say about his good fortune: "I can't believe this. Just a week ago I was up on stage playing tambourine with Toad and now I've just won the guitar. This is great!" Well said, Jason. Check out the lyrics that Jason figured out.

TOAD ON LENO, MORE HORDE DATES ADDED
On Friday, June 20th, Toad The Wet Sprocket will be making their third appearance on the Jay Leno-hosted Tonight Show taped at the NBC Studios in Burbank, California. The band-who also performed on David Letterman's Late Show on May 21st-is currently finishing up their Listener Appreciation Tour and preparing for the summer long HORDE festival trek. You'll find that more HORDE shows have been added on the East Coast by clicking here. Toad is also set to play the sold out "BFD" concert sponsored by San Francisco radio station LIVE 105 at the Shoreline Ampitheatre (Doors: 1:00pm/ Music: 3:00pm) on Friday the 13th (of June). Sharing the bill will be The Cure, Third Eye Blind and The Squirrel Nut Zippers. The latter act will also join up with Toad for most of the HORDE tour, which begins July 11th.

SNAIL MAIL STICKER
The Toad helpers who provide info for the House Of Toad and who update the "snail-mail" list are suffering from a severe case of "dry tongues" after licking nearly 70,000 stamps for the latest Toad postcard/sticker that was mailed out last week! Yet, we're still sad that some of those on the list received their COIL card after the Letterman appearance and Coil's release date. To those people, the House Of Toad issues a sincere apology; now you know where the term "snail-mail" comes from. Of course, if you're a regular visitor to the House Of Toad, you knew all about this stuff in plenty of time (check out the URL Minder link on our links page). Now if we can only figure out how to send stickers through the internet!

TOAD JOINS 1997 HORDE TOUR
One of rock and roll's premiere summer events-the HORDE tour-has added Toad The Wet Sprocket to their main stage lineup for the 2 month jaunt across the USA. Beginning in San Francisco on July 11th and running through Labor Day Weekend, the HORDE line-up for 1997 will also feature headliner Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Primus, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, and Squirrel Nut Zippers on the main stage, with Morphine, Ben Folds Five, Leftover Salmon and Ozomatli on the 2nd stage. This is the sixth annual HORDE tour, and there are rumours that one of the founding bands-Blues Traveler-will make a few appearances on the bill as well.
Other acts who have played the festival in the past include The Black Crowes, Dave Mathhews Band and Joan Osborne. The House Of Toad is your source for complete HORDE tour details and you'll get them from us as soon as they become available.
